CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE STEVE FOLEY EMBRACES
“9-9-9 PLAN” FOR REAL TAX REFORM

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  January 14, 2012

Steve Foley, congressional candidate in California’s 47th District, announced today that he supports the “9-9-9 Plan,” a package of tax reforms first proposed by former presidential candidate Herman Cain.

The 9-9-9 Plan has gained a substantial following among voters nationwide, both for its simplicity and the economic benefits it would yield.

“I support the 999 Plan because it’s time for bold solutions and broad reform,” Foley asserted. “Our elected leaders habitually tinker around the edges of tax reform, making small insignificant changes. Real action and reform are now required.”

First and foremost, the 9-9-9 Plan would provide a pro-growth shot in the arm to a struggling U.S. economy. “The departure of business from the U.S. to more business-friendly nations has become an epidemic,” Foley acknowledged. “Our country now has the highest corporate tax structure in the world. It hurts average Americans. When business goes, so do jobs.”

Foley explained that the 9-9-9 Plan would contribute to a reversal of this negative trend by establishing a much lower corporate tax structure. “Many existing companies would return to U.S. shores under less burdensome tax conditions.” Just as importantly, the 9-9-9 Plan would provide emerging business with strong incentive to base operations in the U.S. “Thriving business is the lifeblood of a healthy economy,” Foley stated.

Foley noted that the 9-9-9 Plan had many additional advantages. In shifting the burden of taxation from production to consumption, it would increase capital formation, fueling productivity and wage growth. It would also allow immediate expensing of business investments. All deductions and special interest favors would be eradicated under the 9-9-9 Plan, making for greater fairness, neutrality, and transparency.  Moreover, some of the most hated taxes would completely disappear, including:

•    All payroll taxes
•    The death tax
•    Double taxation of dividends
•    Taxation of capital gains and repatriated profits

Foley observed that the everyday citizens can no longer hope to comprehend the vastness and complexity of the existing, antiquated, oppressive federal tax code. “At 72,536 pages and growing yearly, the current tax code is the very definition of out-of-control government. The 9-9-9 Plan would instead be simple, powerful, and effective. It’s time for common sense on Capitol Hill.”

“In embracing the 9-9-9 Plan,” Foley declared, “I’m sending a clear signal that I’ll be an agent of real, positive reform in Washington. Idle chatter just won’t cut it anymore.”
